Product Design

Industrial & engineering of physical product design

With extensive experience in industrial design and physical product development, we support every stage of the journey — from idea generation through sketching and generative AI, to researching market and design trends, developing products for manufacture (DFM), consulting, 3D printing, and functional testing. Wherever you are in the product lifecycle, we can help guide and develop your concept through to launch. Below are some examples of projects we’ve worked on.

Tempest Bike Helmet

Air quality Commuter Bicycle Helmet

This project explored the growing issue of urban air pollution and its impact on people commuting by foot or bicycle in busy cities. The objective was to design a commuter or cyclist-focused product that could monitor local air quality in real time and notify the user of cleaner alternative routes with lower pollutant levels. The helmet concept was developed around existing air quality sensing technology, which measures particulate levels and connects to a smartphone app to collect data and provide feedback. As the user travels, airflow passes through sensors at the front of the helmet, allowing continuous monitoring of particle concentration. An optional face mask attachment was also incorporated, offering additional protection for users when travelling through unavoidable high-pollution areas.

The central bottle has a blue cap and a blue liquid inside, the leftmost has a green cap with a small amount of green liquid, the second from the left has a silver cap with no visible liquid, the second from the right has a white cap with no visible liquid, and the rightmost has an orange cap with brownish liquid at the bottom.

Refill Cosmetic Pump

Refillable Pump and Housing Design for Home & Skin Care Markets

This project set out to address the widespread problem of single-use plastics and the frequent disposal of entire pump bottles. The goal was to develop a refillable pump system that allows users to easily replace the internal cartridge while retaining a durable, high-quality outer product for long-term use. The design consists of a permanent lower housing, an upper shroud and pump assembly, and a replaceable refill cartridge. This approach enables customers to make a one-time purchase of the main product and simply replace the internal refill bottle as needed, significantly reducing plastic waste while maintaining a premium user experience.

Contactless Pump Adapter

Contactless Pump Adapter to reduce spread of COVID -19

The aim of this project was to develop a new system to help reduce the spread and build-up of bacteria and viruses — specifically COVID-19 — on the surfaces of hand-actuated pumps used in the food and FMCG sectors. The design was inspired by automated drink-dispensing systems commonly found in fast-food restaurants. It features a front guard that allows the user to activate the pump using the container itself, rather than touching the pump head. A key objective was to keep the solution fully mechanical with no electronics, which led to the use of a parallel-linkage mechanism to convert horizontal motion into vertical force. The system also incorporates an automatic wiping feature that cleans the pump nozzle after each use, further improving hygiene.

Premium In-Shower Scent Defuser

Industrial Design Concepts for Inshower Scent Defuser Product

We were tasked with developing a range of industrial design concepts for an in-shower diffuser. The project began with research into visual styles and themes that aligned with the brand’s direction, which focused on calm, relaxation, self-healing, and meditation. These values needed to be reflected in both the form and materials of the outer housing, while also accommodating the internal mechanical components.

Existing 3D CAD models provided the foundation for the design work, allowing us to build free-form shapes around the internal structure. This exploration was carried out in Cinema 4D, enabling rapid concept generation with realistic materials and finishes within a tight project timeline.

Oversized Road Bike Rear Derailleur Hanger

Mid range rear derailleur hanger for the increase efficacy of your drive train.

This product was developed to target the mid-range aftermarket rear derailleur hanger market, where we identified a gap between premium high-end components and low-cost, less effective alternatives. The design improves chain smoothness on road bikes by increasing the chain wrap, helping to create a more controlled and efficient movement. High-quality stainless steel sealed bearings are incorporated to minimise rolling resistance, while the main frame is constructed from carbon fibre with aluminium and steel fittings for strength and durability. The oversized cogs are moulded from nylon to provide rigidity while also helping to reduce vibration and noise during use.
